Assurit CEO, Sunny K. Tuteja, was honored at the 2014 (ISC)² U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLA) Gala as the winner of the GISLA in the Federal Contractor category. The (ISC)² GISLA program has been recognizing the ongoing commitment of individuals whose initiatives in the areas of technology, process/policy or community awareness have led to significant improvements in the security posture of a department, agency or the entire federal government.

With cybersecurity becoming an increasingly prevalent issue in boardrooms across the nation, more cybersecurity companies are surfacing to market their abilities and deliver their solutions. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, an average of 500,000 businesses are opened every year. However, the failure rate in startups is dauntingly high. Overall, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) reports that about 50 percent of new businesses fail within five years. In this feature, our CEO shares some of the values and beliefs that have helped Assurit scale, succeed, and beat those statistics.

July 25, 2019 – Assurit Consulting Group, LLC has received an 8(a) sole-source award with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to provide penetration testing of CFTC’s network. This testing will target the transmission of sensitive market data and serve to evaluate existing security controls. The results of this testing will be incorporated into the OIG Annual Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) Evaluation.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission was created by Congress in 1974 as an independent agency with the mandate to regulate commodity futures and options markets in the United States. The agency protects market participants against manipulation, abusive trade practices and fraud. Through effective oversight and regulation, the CFTC enables the markets to serve better their important functions in the nation’s economy providing a mechanism for price discovery and a means of offsetting price risk. The CFTC monitors markets and market participants by maintaining, in addition to its headquarters office in Washington, offices in cities that have futures exchanges – New York, Chicago, and Kansas City. Assurit will be providing its expertise to support critical cyber security controls essential to the CFTC’s mission success.

April 22, 2019 – Assurit has been awarded a contract to provide cybersecurity support to the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT). The vision of the Department is to lead the State in the creation and implementation of world-class information technology solutions to improve IT infrastructure and government services and keep Maryland current within IT industry trends. Assurit will be providing our expertise to ensure that DoIT is able to continue their business and fulfill their mission.

March 28, 2019 – Assurit has been awarded a contract to provide cybersecurity support to PNC Bank. PNC Bank is a subsidiary of PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., a financial services corporation based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PNC Bank operates in 19 states and the District of Columbia and is ranked 9th on the list of largest banks in the U.S by assets. Assurit will be providing our expertise to ensure that PNC is able to continue their business and fulfill their mission.

February 22, 2019 – Assurit has now been certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification is a Federal program created to increase the participation of certified DBEs in projects funded by the US Department of Transportation and other federal sectors. November 14, 2018 – Assurit is pleased to announce that we have been certified as a participant in the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) Business Development Program until November 2027. September 13, 2018 – Assurit has named Jonathan L. Perez as the company’s Director of Cybersecurity Services. Mr. Perez is a seasoned IT professional who has been with the company for over 4 years. February 15, 2018 – Assurit CEO, Sunny K. Tuteja and CTO, Thang D. Pham, have been invited to speak at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) campus in Elkridge, MD to address students within the Cybersecurity Graduate program about the field of cybersecurity. The purpose of this speaking engagement will be to educate the students on topics including; the cybersecurity field in its current state and where it is headed in the future, the career opportunities within the field, the education and certification path that can prepare students to advance in the workplace, and how students can go about seeking employment while in school and after graduation. Assurit is excited to add UMUC to its portfolio of speaking engagements at academic establishments to help educate students and provide them with guidance and direction.

February 2, 2018 – Assurit has received a contract to provide cybersecurity support to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The mission of the SEC is to protect investors; maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets; and facilitate capital formation. July 16, 2017 – Assurit has named Denise L. Pho as the company’s Director of Operations. Ms. Pho has over a decade of experience in customer service, management and operations. Denise started as an intern at Assurit and has worn several hats within the company thus far. She has improved operations in all departments through the implementation of repeatable processes and corporate policies. Her determination to turn information into action has contributed to many successes, including Assurit’s rebranding effort. Denise now leads the day-to-day operations of the firm including human resources, accounting, contracts management, marketing, and corporate policies and procedures. June 18, 2017 – Assurit has received a contract to provide cybersecurity support to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). January 27, 2016 – Assurit President and CEO, Sunny K. Tuteja, has been chosen to serve on the Judge committee for the (ISC)² U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLAs). Since 2004, (ISC)2 has been recognizing the ongoing commitment of individuals who are leading the way and making a difference in this ever-evolving industry, honoring their tireless efforts and standards of excellence in the field of information security. A nominations judging committee comprised of seven to ten senior information security experts will review all submissions and select finalists for each category. All qualified finalists are honored during an Awards ceremony each year. Assurit is honored to be a part of the GISLAs and looks forward to continuing to support the mission of (ISC)².

January 15, 2016 – Assurit has received a contract to provide cybersecurity support to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). Due to the nature of the data maintained by the DOJ and it’s sub-agencies – it is extremely important for the agency to ensure their cybersecurity controls are deployed properly and maintained effectively to protect their sensitive data – and Assurit will be providing expertise to ensure their mission critical data is secured. The United States Department of Justice (DOJ), also known as the Justice Department, is a federal executive department of the U.S. government, responsible for the enforcement of the law and administration of justice in the United States.

January 14, 2016 – Assurit names Thang D. Pham as the company’s Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Mr. Pham is a seasoned IT professional with over 10 years of experience in Cyber Security and IT Operations. He is a proven Subject Matter Expert (SME) and is well-versed in multiple disciplines including network/application security, vulnerability management and IT GRC. January 4, 2016 – Assurit has received a contract to provide cybersecurity support to Thomson Reuters Corporation. Thomson Reuters Corp. provides integrated and intelligent information for businesses and professionals. It serves decision makers in the financial and risk, legal, tax and accounting, intellectual property, and science and media markets. Assurit will be providing our expertise to ensure that Thomson Reuters is able to continue their business and fulfill their mission.

December 23, 2015 – Assurit has received a contract to provide cybersecurity support to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). With NASA’s recent move to the cloud – it has been increasingly important for the agency to ensure they are implementing the proper security measures to protect their mission critical data – and Assurit will be providing service to ensure that NASA is able to continue their business and fulfill their mission. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is the United States government agency responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.

May 19, 2015 – Assurit President, Sunny K. Tuteja, was invited to speak today at the 2015 (ISC)² U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Award (GISLA) Ceremony in Washington, DC. June 3, 2014 – Assurit President, Sunny K. Tuteja, was honored today at the 2014 (ISC)² U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLA) Gala as the winner of the 2014 GISLA in the Federal Contractor category (https://www.isc2.org/gislawinner). Sunny developed a Plan of Action and Milestones (POAM) Dashboard for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s, Natural Resources Conservation Service, that brought previously unavailable visibility into the difficult and costly task of managing POA&Ms. His unique and innovative dashboard delivered a strategic view of system weaknesses that resulted in an expected closure of over 75% of the agency’s POA&Ms and an overall improved security posture at the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Assurit would like to thank (ISC)² for providing a forum to recognize the efforts of government and contractor staff in the field of cybersecurity.

March 26, 2014 – Assurit has been awarded a contract to provide cybersecurity support to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Cybersecurity Division. The security of the intellectual property (IP) stored and transmitted through USPTO information systems is a top priority for the agency – and Assurit will be providing cybersecurity expertise to assist the USPTO with maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of their systems and data. The USPTO, an agency that operates under the Department of Commerce (DOC), is charged with a mission to foster innovation and competitiveness by providing high quality and timely examination of patent and trademark applications, guiding domestic and international intellectual property policy, and delivering intellectual property information and education worldwide. The USPTO headquarters occupies five interconnected buildings located at 600 Dulany Street, Alexandria, Virginia and employs more than 10,000 people — including engineers, scientists, attorneys, analysts, and computer specialists — all dedicated to protecting U.S. intellectual property rights.

March 20, 2014 – Assurit President and CEO, Sunny Tuteja, has been invited to speak at the George Mason University (GMU) campus in Fairfax, VA this April to address students within the Information Technology (IT) program about the field of cybersecurity. The purpose of this speaking engagement will be to educate the students on topics including; the cybersecurity field in its current state and where it is headed in the future, the career opportunities within the field, the education and certification path that can prepare students to enter the workforce, and how students can go about seeking employment while in school and after graduation. The strategic goal of these sessions will be to educate students about the exponentially growing field of cybersecurity while they are still at a point within their education track where they are deciding which IT concentration they would like to pursue. With the current shortage of educated cybersecurity professionals available in the workforce today – Assurit and GMU are teaming together to help ease the imbalance by educating students about the field early enough for them to explore it via related course offerings at the university.

March 20, 2013 – Assurit has received a contract to support the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in all areas of the NRCS Information Assurance Program. Information security has become a mission essential function for NRCS – and Assurit will be providing service to ensure that NRCS is able to continue their business and fulfill their mission. Originally established by Congress in 1935 as the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), NRCS has expanded to become a conservation leader for all natural resources, ensuring private lands are conserved, restored, and more resilient to environmental challenges, like climate change.
