With cybersecurity becoming an increasingly prevalent issue in boardrooms across the nation, more cybersecurity companies are surfacing to market their abilities and deliver their solutions. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, an average of 500,000 businesses are opened every year. However, the failure rate in startups is dauntingly high. Overall, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) reports that about 50 percent of new businesses fail within five years. November 14, 2018 – Assurit is pleased to announce that we have been certified as a participant in the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) Business Development Program until November 2028. November 6, 2018 – Assurit is proud to report that we have received the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification through the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Office of Minority Business Enterprise (OMBE). Established in 1978, Maryland’s Minority Business Enterprise Program is the oldest in the country. The MBE program was established to ensure that small, minority and women-owned firms have the opportunity to participate fully and fairly in both state and United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) federally funded projects. June 3, 2014 – Assurit President, Sunny K. Tuteja, was honored today at the 2014 (ISC)² U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLA) Gala as the winner of the 2014 GISLA in the Federal Contractor category. Sunny developed a Plan of Action and Milestones (POAM) Dashboard for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s, Natural Resources Conservation Service, that brought previously unavailable visibility into the difficult and costly task of managing POA&Ms. His unique and innovative dashboard delivered a strategic view of system weaknesses that resulted in an expected closure of over 75% of the agency’s POA&Ms and an overall improved security posture at the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Assurit would like to thank (ISC)² for providing a forum to recognize the efforts of government and contractor staff in the field of cybersecurity.

March 20, 2014 – Assurit President and CEO, Sunny Tuteja, has been invited to speak at the George Mason University (GMU) campus in Fairfax, VA this April to address students within the Information Technology (IT) program about the field of cybersecurity. The purpose of this speaking engagement will be to educate the students on topics including; the cybersecurity field in its current state and where it is headed in the future, the career opportunities within the field, the education and certification path that can prepare students to enter the workforce, and how students can go about seeking employment while in school and after graduation. The strategic goal of these sessions will be to educate students about the exponentially growing field of cybersecurity while they are still at a point within their education track where they are deciding which IT concentration they would like to pursue. With the current shortage of educated cybersecurity professionals available in the workforce today – Assurit and GMU are teaming together to help ease the imbalance by educating students about the field early enough for them to explore it via related course offerings at the university.
